Earlier today, hundreds of citizens gathered to protest outside the building where the Albanian Parliament holds its plenary sessions. Protesters attempted to block members of parliament from entering the chamber, and some threw eggs at MPs' vehicles.
Police intervened to stop the protesters, leading to pushing and physical clashes between officers and demonstrators.
Police forcibly detained several protesters, taking at least five of them into custody. They were transported to three different police stations, reportedly to prevent citizens from gathering at a single location in support of those detained.
Hundreds of protesters then marched to the headquarters of the State Police, where they demanded the immediate release of the detainees and declared that they would not leave until they were freed.
