Mayor of Tirana Erion Veliaj has been diagnosed with COVID-19.
Veliaj made the announcement via social media.
“Friends, after the test they informed me that I am positive with COVID-19. I am in good health, as is my family. As of today, I will continue to work with the same dedication for Tirana, but from home.”

There are no details on how Veliaj may have been infected. The Mayor has repeatedly appeared on social media hugging citizens, visiting families and attending gatherings while not wearing a mask.
Reliable sources have informed Exit that there are dozens of infected individuals working at the Municipality of Tirana.
