The Albanian Institute of Public Health (ISHP) has confirmed that the Delta variant has reached Albania, with 21 cases recorded in ten cities, including Tirana.

In a press conference on Monday, ISHP informed that six of the 21 were vaccinated, but no one has needed hospital care. 38% of the Delta variant cases are foreign tourists.

According to ISHP, the number of daily cases has risen significantly throughout July. However, no deaths related to COVID-19 have been recorded in over a month.

The Institute also notified that there are currently nine patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in the country. Eight are unvaccinated, while one has received only a first dose of the vaccine.

There will be no changes to the lockdown measures currently in place. Curfew will start at midnight and last until 6 a.m. Foreign travelers can enter Albania freely, without needing to provide a negative COVID-19 test.

Around 500,000 Albanians have been fully vaccinated, while more than 1 million doses of the vaccine have been administered to date.

Open vaccination has been extended and everyone over 18 can receive a vaccine by signing up on e-Albania or bringing an ID or resident permit to the vaccination center.
